St. Pauli sign Sven Van Der Jeugt

The Boys in Brown unveiled their new goalkeeper coach on the first day of pre-season in the shape of Sven Van Der Jeugt, 43, who has followed head coach Alexander Blessin from Union Saint-Gilloise to the Millerntor.

Van der Jeugt joined Union in July 2023 having spent four years as a goalkeeper coach at SK Beveren. He kept goal for various Belgian clubs during his active career, including Royal Antwerp and Anderlecht, before retiring in 2016.

Reaction to the deal

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Sven Van Der Jeugt has already demonstrated his prowess as a goalkeeper coach in Belgium's top flight and will bring on our goalkeepers and provide new impetus. The key focus will be to bring the way our keepers play into line with the Alexander Blessin's philosophy. We're therefore delighted to welcome Sven to the team."

Head coach Alexander Blessin: "Sven is an extremely experienced goalkeeper and coach and someone I had an excellent working relationship with at Union. So I'm delighted we can now take on the challenge of the Bundesliga together. We had a very good time at Union and wish them all the best for the new season!"

Goalkeeper coach Sven Van Der Jeugt: "When Alex asked me if I wanted to coach the St. Pauli goalkeepers in the Bundesliga, I didn't have to think twice. We have very similar views on football and I'm looking forward to working with Alex, Peter Nemeth, the keepers and the entire team."
