Banks makes move permanent

FC St. Pauli have signed Scottish winger Scott Banks, 22, on a permanent deal from Crystal Palace. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose any details of the transfer.

Banks joined the Boys in Brown on loan from the Premier League club in August 2023 but was restricted to just four brief appearances by a cruciate ligament tear. He contributed one assist in this time.

The Scottish wide man was on the books of Crystal Palace from January 2020 but had loan spells with Dunfermline Athletic FC and Bradford City, among others, before hooking up with the Boys in Brown. Banks has made a total of 31 appearances in League Two in England, scoring six goals and providing five assists, plus 28 Premier League 2 appearances (14 goals, seven assists). He has also played six times for the Scotland Under-21s to date.

Reaction to the deal

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Scott showed early last season that he can make us even more unpredictable with his ability. He's also settled in very well. The perseverance Scott showed in working his way back to full fitness after his serious injury deserves recognition. We're therefore delighted to have made the deal permanent."

Scott Banks: "It was my express wish to stay at FC St. Pauli. I feel I'm not done here yet and believe I'm in the right place to take the next step in my development. I'm also very grateful to the club and my team-mates for their support over the past year, which wasn't an easy time for me personally. Finishing the campaign so successfully and the excitement of looking forward to next season in the Bundesliga make it all the nicer."
