KYEREH: "WE MANAGED TO DOMINATE FOR 90 MINUTES TODAY"

As was to be expected, the mood in the camp after the third win in three home games against Jahn Regensburg was buoyant. We spoke to head coach Timo Schultz, double goalscorer Guido Burgstaller and two-assist man Kofi Kyereh, who were delighted with the performance, leaving aside the finishing.

Head coach Timo Schultz: "We were well worth the win and have every reason to be satisfied today. It was a very mature performance from the outset. On the ball, we repeatedly swapped sides and threatened down the flanks. Off it, we immediately pressed the ball whenever we lost possession. That took the wind out of Regensburg's sails a bit. We always had players around when we lost the ball. We recovered lots of balls and created chances, especially in the closing stages of the first half. The lads did that really well today. Guido wasn't in the game at all in the first 20 minutes but worked his way into it with two or three good defensive actions. He might not excel every time and yet he always has three or four good situations. He's always annoyed when he misses a chance, that's what makes him the player he is. The way he plays and urges the other lads on is incredibly important for us. We now have ten points from five games. That's a good start but every team can beat every other team in this league. We had a good day and Regensburg were possibly not at their best and so we end up winning, but it might go differently in our next game at Hannover. We now have a few days to take a breather. Some of the lads will hook up with their national teams, others will have an opportunity to nurse their knocks."

Guido Burgstaller: "The win is absolutely deserved. All in all, our defending was good. We had the game under control, though we did have a few hairy moments as well. We made life difficult for ourselves. We had so many chances that we didn't take and lots of situations where the final ball went astray. Otherwise, we would have won by more. None of us finished that well today. I should have scored from the first chance, but it hit the post and went out. You have to keep your belief as a striker and thankfully I took the next one. With the second goal it was all over. I have Kofi to thank because the first assist was outstanding as well. It's always nice for a striker to have teammates like him, of course. We have a good understanding on the pitch and it's great fun to play football with him."

Daniel-Kofi Kyereh: "Our game plan was in evidence from the opening minute today. We showed we wanted to bring everything to the pitch and take all three points with the support of the fans. We did it in impressive style, which is why we deserved to win today. We managed to dominate for 90 minutes. I don't have to say much about my interaction with Guido, you can see it on the pitch, after all. We have a really good understanding, though we did say after the game that we should have scored more today, especially in the first half. We did better in that respect after the interval. During the game we said we needed to be more alert the next time we had a chance and then it came off twice. We now take a positive feeling with us into the international break."

Mersad Selimbegović (Regensburg coach): "We deserved to lose. We never managed to get a grip like we did in recent matches. We came up against very hard-working opponents who enjoyed their football today. We were unable to impose ourselves on the game or hold the ball up. St. Pauli were very effective in the tackle and got the ball forward to the two strikers quickly and with a lot of variation – sometimes down the flanks and sometimes down the channels. It wasn't easy for us, but we managed to survive the first half unscathed somehow. It was astonishing we didn't concede between the 30th minute and half-time. St. Pauli played well, while we overcomplicated things. They didn't have the same power and dominance in the second half but remained a constant threat. We had one or two situations where we've been clinical recently but weren't today, but we won't let the first defeat knock us off our stride. We'll analyse it thoroughly and go again after the international break. What I said before the season was confirmed today unfortunately. I had hoped it wouldn't happen until later. St. Pauli are on a roll and are capable of causing a surprise this season."
