FC St. Pauli entertain TSG Hoffenheim on Friday evening (20.30 CET) in the final game before the sole international break during the second half of the season. In the run-up, full-back Philipp Treu took time out to speak to the media.
Philipp Treu on…
...the draw at Wolfsburg: "We played well and the penalty against us was a hard one to take. We have to keep working the way we have been doing in the last few weeks. And we have to keep the individual errors to a minimum."
...the 2-0 win at Hoffenheim in the reverse fixture: "I picked up a slight muscle tear but thankfully it wasn't too bad. My whole family was at the game, so obviously I was gutted to have to go off just after half-time. The win was the most important thing in the end, though, and we want to get another one in the second game. My girlfriend and my family will be there again."
...Friday's game: "The basics will be important as well as the intensity we need to bring our transitional game to the pitch. We can build on our set pieces. Keeping a clean sheet will be the foundation again. We're always better when we defend well and make a mark from there."
...the opposition: "They have a different philosophy under their new coach. They're an established side with familiar names in their ranks. They play high-intensity football and have lots of pace in attack."

Workhorse Philipp Treu injured a muscle in his left thigh during the 2-0 win in the reverse fixture.
...playing at both left and right back: "I've often said I don't really care what side I play on, though I think cutting inside from the left as a strength of mine. I always try to perform wherever the coach puts me and I really enjoy playing with Elias, Dapo and Noah on the flank. They have enormous quality."
...his footballing development: "I'm always very critical of myself. I wasn't satisfied with my performances against Dortmund and Freiburg, for example, which weren't what I want. In view of the playing time I'm getting, I also see myself taking on a leadership role and showing the way. We have nine games left and my aim is to do that with the other leaders in the team. We had no joy against Dortmund and Freiburg but the performance against Wolfsburg was pretty decent. Generally, fighting against relegation in the Bundesliga is new for me. It's as if I've always played in second teams and I've often achieved promotion. It's a new experience and one I'm growing into."
...playing under the lights at the Millerntor: "Evening games at the Millerntor are always special. An 8.30 kick-off in front of our own fans. That can us give us lots of energy."
...the league table: "We're obviously aware of it, but we shouldn't just look behind us at what the other teams are doing. We have to go on the hunt and try to drag Union Berlin and Hoffenheim back into the mire. That's the mindset we need for the next few games. We want to pick up points to widen the gap."
