Weißhaupt: "I'll have to go flat out"

Three players joined the Boys in Brown during the winter break and Noah Weißhaupt was one of them. The 23-year-old, who arrived on loan from fellow Bundesliga side SC Freiburg, took questions from the media after training on Tuesday.

Noah Weißhaupt on…

...his first few days at FC St. Pauli: "I've been here a week now and have a few training sessions behind me. What's different here is that you speak English most of the time. That's cool. The lads come from all over the place and I like that. I do speak English but it's a chance to learn more. Moving to another club for the first time is tough for some players but I've been given a fantastic welcome and have settled in quickly. I'm having fun."

...his goals for his spell at the Millerntor: "I haven't played much in the last six months. For me as a young player it's important to get playing time. I won't get anything for nothing here, though, so I'll have to go flat out. I hope I can help the team with my pace and my one-on-ones. I know my strengths and will do my best. I want to help the team as soon as possible."

...his impressions of his new team: "I had look at the team when I knew where I was going. They've put in some great performances but often it was the cutting edge in front of goal that was lacking. The defending has been brilliant and from what I've seen I'm convinced the team can stay up, so I came here in good spirits."

Noah Weißhaupt made his first appearance in a St. Pauli shirt in the friendly against second-division Eintracht Braunschweig.

...the competition on the flanks in Oladapo Afolayan and Morgan Guilavogui: "They're both top players, which is good for me because I want to prove myself and earn my place. If someone plays and the other doesn't, then someone comes from the bench. It's good for the team when fresh legs come from the bench. But I can play as a wing-back as well."

...the opportunities offered by the loan: "I see it as a positive. You have to find a club that fits the player, of course. That's the first prerequisite. Coming to St. Pauli was my wish. The talks were great and convinced me the move was right. I felt at home from the first time we met and that won me over. I'm positive about the move and hope I can establish myself here. My goal is to get as much playing time as possible."

...the development of young players at FC St. Pauli: "There have already been three Freiburg players who came here at a young age and settled in really well. I've spoken to Robert, Carlo and Philipp and they all said it's a great club where I can settle in really well. That was very important. After the talks, including those with Andreas Bornemann, I believed I would get my chance here and obviously I want to take it."

...the reaction of his father, who was at HSV in the 1994/95 season, to the move: "He didn't say anything. We don't speak about it much and that's good (he laughs). He gives me lots of tips but recently it's been more about how I see it and what my goals are."
