HÜRZELER: "I TAKE A LOT OF POSITIVES FROM THE GAME"

The Boys in Brown concluded their preparations for the second half of the season with a scoreless draw against Danish top-division club FC Midtjylland at the Millerntor. After the final whistle, the mood in the camp after the dress rehearsal for the league resumption at FC Nürnberg was one of satisfaction.

Head coach Fabian Hürzeler: "I take a lot of positives from the game. The way we worked against the ball, in particular, was very, very good. We were very compact in our work against the ball and only allowed one shot on goal, which resulted from our own mistake. When we won possession, and we did that a lot, we weren't as resolute as we have been in the last few games. We didn't really get in behind their defence. On the ball, our play was often untidy, we made too many simple mistakes. When we played out from the back, we didn't always get through, but on the three or four occasions we did, we also got into the opposition box. Not everything was top today, but there were lots of positive aspects. We have to work on the small things now."

Lukas Daschner: "Defensively, we can take a lot from the game, we kept a clean sheet like we did at Mönchengladbach. Apart from one shot on goal, we basically gave nothing away today. We can build on that. Midtjylland were dangerous in transition, but we defended it well. In attack, it wasn't easy for us against a solid defence today. Midtjylland closed down the space in the middle and waited for us to play the ball in. We still had some good chances, though, when I think of Manolis's piledriver against the bar and Jackson's header before the break. In general, we could have done better in one or two situations. We'll no doubt work on our play with the ball next week. We know we have to keep working on our game, but we go into the second half of the season feeling positive."

Marcel Hartel: "We were very solid at the back today and combined well. In the final third, we weren't resolute enough. We now look forward to the Nürnberg game. It's important to start well in the league and that's all we're focusing on now. We've tweaked a few things and that's worked well in the warm-up games."

David Otto: "We played decent opposition who were very compact. The positive thing is that we kept a clean sheet against a really good team. Don't forget that Midtjylland beat Lazio 5-1 in the Europa League and scored twelve goals in the group stage. After the clean sheet at Gladbach, it was important to confirm our defensive stability today. We're more stable now and that'll be important in the league where we'll come up against defensively solid sides like them. In our play with the ball, we can make better use of the situations. We gave the ball away too carelessly today - both in the build-up and in transition. We need to be more assured on the ball. The preparations have generally gone well and that goes for me as well. We all had an opportunity after the change of coach and I've taken mine to a certain extent and I'm glad my performances have been right. We'll now analyse what went well and not so well today and then place the focus fully on Nürnberg."

Karol Mets: "Two equally matched teams came up against each other today, each with a clear idea of how they want to play. At the end of the day, the goalless draw is a fair result. Keeping a clean sheet should always be the objective. Today we ensured they hardly had a shot on goal. My first game at the Millerntor felt great even if the stadium wasn't full. I can only imagine what it’ll be like when the Millerntor is sold out. I'm already looking forward to the home games. I feel great, it's getting better every day. My experience helps me, of course, but the lads help me as well and the coach talks to me a lot, which makes it easy for me."
