Connor Metcalfe signs contract extension

Just days ahead of the start of the new season, work on the future of the squad at FC St. Pauli continues: midfielder Connor Metcalfe, whose contract originally ran until next summer, has signed a contract extension. The the new deal was agreed upon by the Australian international and sporting director Andreas Bornemann.

Metcalfe joined FC St. Pauli from Australian top-flight club Melbourne City ahead of the 2022/23 season. Since then, the 24-year-old has appeared 65 times for the Kiez club in the 2. Bundesliga and the DFB Cup. In that time he’s scored six goals and provided seven assists. Metcalfe is also part of the Australian national side, for which he’s appeared 23 times (three assists).

Comments on the contract extension:

Sporting director Andreas Bornemann: “With his flexibility and versatility, Connor was already an important part of our success last season. We still see a lot of potential in him, not least because he’s not yet been playing permanently in what is possibly for him the ideal position. He’s developed very well with us so far and we look forward to working together with him going forward as well.”

Head coach Alexander Blessin: “Connor brings with him everything required to play an even bigger role with us in the coming years. He’s got a good football brain, is a hard tackler and is able to set up his team-mates or get into dangerous positions himself. Those are qualities that we’re going to need both this season and beyond, so it’s great that we can now plan with him long term.”

Connor Metcalfe: “After a good two years in Hamburg and at FC St. Pauli, I can say that I feel at home here. Above all, I’m in exactly the right place from a football perspective too. We’ve got a fantastic team, where I can develop well as a player, and with this coming season in the Bundesliga an extremely exciting challenge ahead of us. It was therefore clear to me that I wanted to be part of this group and of this club in the coming years too.”
