BOYS IN BROWN AWAY TO LEIPZIG IN DFB CUP ROUND 2

FC St. Pauli were handed an away tie at Leipzig when the draw for the second round of the DFB Cup was made at the German Football Museum in Dortmund on Sunday evening. The game will take place on either Tuesday, 29 October or Wednesday, 30 October, with the precise time to be announced by the DFB in due course.

The Boys in Brown won 3-2 after extra-time at fourth-tier Hallescher FC in the first round, while Leipzig secured a 4-1 away win at Rot-Weiss Essen.

Reaction to the draw:

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: “Leipzig are definitely one of the toughest opponents you can get in the second round, especially as they’ve made a very good start to the Bundesliga season. We obviously aren’t favourites going into the tie but that doesn’t mean we don’t have a chance, so we’ll give it all we’ve got to go through to the next round.”

Head coach Alexander Blessin: “It’s obviously a special game for me personally because of my past. Before the draw we said we’d take what came, though a home game would have been nice. We now look forward to a big challenge.”
