Boys in Brown seal Lawrence loan deal

FC St. Pauli have reacted to the long-term loss to injury of captain Christopher Avevor with the addition of centre-back James Lawrence. The 27-year-old Wales international joins the Boys in Brown on loan until 30 June 2020 from Belgian top-flight side RSC Anderlecht.

"Following the injury to Christopher Avevor it was clear we needed to do something in the centre-back position," said director of sport Andreas Bornemann. "We therefore decided to take James on loan until the end of the season."

Head coach Jos Luhukay said: "James is an experienced centre-back who as well as being good in the air is composed on the ball and passes it well. As a left-footed player he gives us more flexibility in central defence and plugs the gap that has arisen there."

"I'm pleased to be here and am looking forward to getting on the pitch and helping the team as soon as possible," said Lawrence. "I've already heard a lot about the club and the fans and it's all been good."

Lawrence made 23 appearances for Anderlecht in the Jupiler Pro League and the play-offs last season. The 27-year-old joined the Belgian club just before the end of the 2018 summer transfer period from Slovak top-division side AS Trencin, with whom he won the double in 2014/15 and 2015/16. Lawrence has also made three Europa League appearances for Anderlecht and made his Wales debut last November. The left-sided defender has played five times for his country to date.
