Irvine to undergo surgery

FC St. Pauli captain Jackson Irvine will undergo surgery on his left foot in London on Tuesday and will therefore be sidelined for the next few months.

Irvine last played for the club at Holstein Kiel on 12 April before a stress reaction in his left foot ruled him out of action. After deliberations between the medical department, club officials and the player himself, the decision was taken to treat the injury surgically. The subsequent rehab procedure will take several months to complete.

FC St. Pauli played out a goalless draw with Werder Bremen on Sunday evening to edge another point closer to Bundesliga safety. In front of a sell-out crowd on the Weser, the Boys in Brown had more of the game in the first half. The home side came out stronger in the second, however, and a draw was a fair reflection of the proceedings.
