NEMETH: "WE GAVE THE GAME AWAY IN THE SPACE OF 20 MINUTES"

The sense of disappointment in the mixed zone after the 2-0 defeat at Borussia Mönchengladbach was tangible, though the performance in the second half did provide grounds for optimism.

Head coach Alexander Blessin: "We wanted to find our rhythm again quickly after the international break and had two good chances in the first few minutes. We weren't properly awake for their first goal from the corner. After that we gave Gladbach lots of space and chances. Towards the end we had three of four chances and who knows what would have happened had we taken one of them."

David Nemeth: "We didn't really get going the first half and we gave Gladbach too much space. We did better in the second and had a couple of chances as well, but the problem today was the first half when we gave the game away in the space of 20 minutes. On a personal level I was obviously delighted to start the game. I gave my all and it felt good, though I wasn't happy with a couple of situations."

Johannes Eggestein: "It's disappointing to come away empty-handed but at the end of the day we didn't play well enough. Some of what we did was really good, but we fell short going forward. We lost the game due to two moments where we weren't so good. All in all, Gladbach did well with the ball in the first half. We dominated the game more in the second and could have taken one of our chances."

Hauke Wahl: "We didn't get our pressing game going in the first half and didn't mount enough pressure on the ball. The gaps were simply too big. In the second half I think we gave a decent performance. When you're 2-0 down and take more risks, you're obviously going to leave a bit more space at the back, but we didn't concede again. In the final quarter of an hour we had the opportunity to get a foot in the door, but we didn't manage to do that today."

Jackson Irvine: "We started well and our structure was looking good, but then we had 15 minutes in the first half when we let the game slip and were too open. If you give top players chances like that, it's tough to get back into the game. In the second half it felt better. We were more aggressive and created three or four good chances, but still it wasn't good enough today."

Gerardo Seoane (head coach, Borussia Mönchengladbach): "We were helped a lot today by the way the game unfolded. St. Pauli started very well. Part of the plan was to give St. Pauli a bit more possession to get our transition game going and we managed to do that. We had to defend a lot more in the second half."
