SCHULTZ HAILS EXCELLENT TEAM PERFORMANCE

After the 2-1 defeat of Greuther Fürth, we spoke to a delighted Timo Schultz and some of his players. Here's what they had to say.

Head coach Timo Schultz: "It was a very good game to watch. We were a bit fortunate to take the lead early on but that, too, was the result of our pressure. We lost our grip on the proceedings midway through the first half and gave Fürth chances. Dejan Stojanović kept us in the game there. We fought superbly in the second half. We were very direct in our defending and are always a threat up front, especially in transition. It ended going so well for us, I'm not going to complain. All in all, the key to success was an excellent team performance."

Luca Zander: "It was a good display from us. You can see the progress we've made. We're very satisfied with it. My job is to go up for set pieces and I try to be there for the second balls. That it came straight to me was a bit lucky, of course. You can't keep Fürth quiet all the time, they have too much quality for that and we knew they would create some good opportunities. At half-time, we said let's give it all we've got again for another 45 minutes. It worked very well."

Guido Burgstaller: "I think we deserved to win overall. We gave as good as we got against very good opponents. We wanted to put them under pressure early and force them into long balls. We're very glad to have won. We've come on really well since December. No one could have anticipated that and now we have three games left where we want to do well. We can be very satisfied with the second half of the season."

Stefan Leitl (Greuther Fürth coach): "Congratulations to St. Pauli on the win. We made the worst possible start. We were in the game well but failed to clear the first situation, which resulted in the opening goal. After that, we were intent on turning it round and had some good chances, but we conceded again in the second half and then it's very tough here. Unfortunately, we scored too late. All in all, it was a good performance from my team against good opposition, but it wasn't to be in the end."

Marco Meyerhöfer: (Greuther Fürth): "We came here looking to get three points so we're dejected now. The thing we were trying to avoid is the thing that happened. We fell behind early on and St. Pauli did it well after that. We still had good chances, though. If we'd got the equaliser, it would have ended differently. It was a day to forget for us."
