FC St. Pauli sign Simon Zoller

FC St. Pauli have strengthened their squad with the addition of Bundesliga striker Simon Zoller. The centre forward arrives from VfL Bochum, having previously played for FC Köln and FC Kaiserslautern, among others.

Zoller, 32, played 109 times for Bochum, scoring 33 goals and making a further 21. In total, the striker has made 114 Bundesliga appearances, contributing 17 goals and eight assists. The Friedrichshafen native has also amassed 119 Bundesliga 2 appearances to date, registering 40 goals and 19 assists, and moves to the Millerntor with immediate effect. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose any details of the transfer.

Reaction to the deal

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "Simon Zoller is an experienced striker who has shown he can score goals at the very highest level. In general, he's very much a team player who makes those around him better. We're convinced Simon will benefit us both as a person and as a player and bring a significant improvement. We're delighted he's chosen FC St. Pauli."

Head coach Fabian Hürzeler: "Simon Zoller is a mobile striker with a great radius of action who looks to take players on and go for goal. He's an intelligent operator on the pitch and brings a wealth of experience. Simon also has a high and reliable work rate off the ball, which is extremely important for us, is very well schooled tactically when it comes to closing players down, and doesn't shirk a challenge."

Simon Zoller: "I'm very much looking forward to the new challenge. Of the various options, the overall package at St. Pauli proved very convincing, including the talks with the director of sport and the head coach, the clear footballing strategy, and the club as a whole. I now want to settle into the group as soon as possible, take on responsibility, and do my bit for the success of the team."
