FC St. Pauli sign Philipp Treu

FC St. Pauli have completed their first signing for next season with the acquisition of Philipp Treu from SC Freiburg II. The 22-year-old right-back has made over 30 appearances and assisted two goals this term for Freiburg's second string, who currently sit second in the third division.

Treu was born in Heidelberg and played for Kaiserslautern and Leipzig at youth level before moving to Freiburg, where he became a first-team regular. To date, he has made a total of 59 third-tier appearances and contributed five assists.

Reaction to the deal:

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "In Philipp Treu, we have gained a young player for FC St. Pauli who quickly established himself at a top third division side and still has huge potential."

Head coach Fabian Hürzeler: "Philipp Treu has already taken on a big responsibility as captain of SC Freiburg II and demonstrated his quality as a footballer. I'm happy to be given another defensive option for the squad and am looking forward to working with him."

Philipp Treu: "FC St. Pauli play a sophisticated brand of football and bank on players who are keen to develop. I'm looking forward to taking the next step at an ambitious second division club - and obviously to the Millerntor atmosphere."
