FC St. Pauli sign Fin Stevens

FC St. Pauli continue to work on their squad for the Bundesliga with the addition of Wales international Fin Stevens from Premier League side Brentford. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose any details of the transfer.

Stevens had been under contract to Brentford since 2020 but played for newly promoted Championship outfit Oxford United last season, for whom he made a total of 43 appearances in League One, the play-offs and the various cup competitions (one goal, five assists). He also spent nearly half a season at Swansea City in 2022, playing five times in the Championship. The 21-year-old full-back has two Wales caps and also made 17 appearances for the Under-21s (one goal, one assist), six of them as captain.

Reaction to the deal:

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "The acquisition of Fin Stevens gives us more depth in the full-back positions and is partly a response to the squeeze we experienced there towards the end of last season. Fin can influence the game at both ends with his dynamism and goes about his work with great determination and maturity for a young player."

Head coach Alexander Blessin: "Fin prefers to play on the right-hand side but can also be deployed on the left. He's a full-back who likes to drive forward and get into deep positions. He anticipates well and is brave and aggressive in the tackle, switching the play quickly after winning the ball."

Fin Stevens: "I'm delighted to take the step into one of the strongest leagues in the world with FC St. Pauli. After excellent talks with the club officials I'm convinced the move comes at the right time and my skill set will fit in with the team's style of play. I'm really looking forward to getting to know my teammates, the fans and Millerntor Stadium."
