FC St. Pauli sign Hauke Wahl

FC St. Pauli have added another player to their squad for next season with the signing of Hauke Wahl from Holstein Kiel. The 29-year-old centre-back has made 302 league and cup appearances to date, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists in that time.

The Hamburg native moved to Kiel as a youth player but left the club to join Paderborn in 2015, returning in July 2018 after further spells at Ingolstadt and Heidenheim. Wahl has captained the Storks for the last four years.

Reaction to the deal:

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: “In Hauke Wahl we’ve signed a player who will add more stability in defence. He’s incredibly experienced, knows the league very well and with his ability is a great fit for our footballing philosophy.”

Head coach Fabian Hürzeler: “I’m looking forward to working with Hauke Wahl. He’s performed consistently well in recent years and will be valuable for us both in defence and with the ball at his feet. He’s also a genuine leader who knows what the league is all about.”

Hauke Wahl: “I’m looking forward to the new assignment at FC St. Pauli and the return to my home city of Hamburg. The club are on an ambitious path and I’d like to play a part with my ability in making the next few years successful ones. I know the Millerntor very well as a visitor and am excited about getting to know it from the other side now.”
