FC St. Pauli sign Abdoulie Ceesay

FC St. Pauli have completed another transfer during the winter break with the addition of striker Abdoulie Ceesay from Estonian top-division club Paide Linnameeskond. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose any details of the deal.

Ceesay, 20, began his senior career at Gambian side Real de Banjul before joining Paide Linnameeskond on loan last July. He made 15 league appearances for the Estonian outfit, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists. He also played twice in the cup, scoring once, and six times in Conference League qualifying, contributing three goals and two assists. Ceesay has played three times for Gambia, scoring one goal.

Reaction to the deal

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "His technical and physical attributes make Abdoulie a very exciting package. He's still young and adjusted quickly to the standard required at his previous clubs each time, which is why we're convinced he'll quickly take the steps needed to stake a claim for Bundesliga minutes. That said, we'll give him the time he needs to get used to football in Germany."

Head coach Alexander Blessin: "I'm pleased we've been able to sign a striker who has quality in all the areas of importance for us. He's physically strong, gets actively involved in passing moves and makes lots of runs in behind. And he can finish with both feet and with his head. We'd now like to help him deploy these attributes to good effect in the Bundesliga."

Abdoulie Ceesay: "I'm delighted to get the chance to prove myself in the Bundesliga. I had very good talks with the coach and the director of sport and am convinced St. Pauli is the right club for my development. It's a big step and I'll do my best to get used to the standard as soon as possible and use my qualities for the benefit of the team."
