NEMETH: "I'M ALWAYS TRYING TO IMPROVE AND GET STUCK IN"

Next up for the Boys in Brown is an outing to reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday (15.30 CET). Centre-back David Nemeth featured in the starting lineup at Borussia Mönchengladbach and in the first home win against Holstein Kiel, and on Tuesday he took time out to speak to the media at the Kollau training ground.

David Nemeth on…

…the opening win at the Millerntor: “It was a super feeling. The way Manos Saliakas hammered the ball in, and the other goals as well. An important win.”

…Nikola Vasil's penalty save: "It was extremely important. Niko was superb back there, as so often this season. It's a shame we couldn't keep a clean sheet.”

…forthcoming opponents Bayer Leverkusen: "Leverkusen are superb opponents. We'll have to give our all if we want to come away with something there. We always try to adapt to the opposition and we watch them in the video analysis session. You look at the attacking players, at how they move and the spaces they move in. I'm always trying to improve and get stuck in. I can't do any more than that. They have really good quality on the ball and we're excited. It's definitely going to be a different game than the one against Kiel. “

The 23-year-old Austrian made his first appearance of the season at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

…his return to the side: "After the Gladbach game I said I try to convert my nervousness into tension to ensure I have  good body tension. It helps me. The actions against Gladbach helped me, especially pushing out. I had a few problems there, but it was better against Kiel. I'll get stuck in in training and in the next game and then we'll see what happens. Karol [Mets] is a super player. He's been outstanding in recent years, so I'll just try to get stuck in.”

…the mental challenge of staying in contention in training: "It's tough. You just try to perform and follow up in the gym so as not to let your head drop.  Having these basics allows you to be on the spot at the right moment. It's definitely the case that you can fall into a hole and lack tension. You try to distract yourself and do other things that can help, like talking to your friends about the situation. I'm glad to be here. It's a privilege to play here.”

…playing for the Under-23s: "We had a friendly against Hannover 96 where I noticed I was lacking games and the patterns and afterwards I said I couldn't carry on like that. I needed to get my minutes. Playing for the Under-23s was an enormous help and we had a lot of fun.”
