Brodersen, Buballa and Miyaichi leave club

With the 2020/21 season now over, the time has come for some key personnel decisions. In goalkeeper Svend Brodersen, defender Daniel Buballa and winger Ryo Miyaichi, three longstanding club servants will no longer be members of the senior squad next season. The trio are joined in leaving the Millerntor by Tore Reginiussen (career end) plus loan players Dejan Stojanović, Rodrigo Zalazar and Omar Marmoush.

Svend Brodersen has been with the Boys in Brown since 2001, his rise through the youth ranks interrupted only by two spells with Hamburg amateur club Eimsbütteler TV. He made the transition to the senior squad in 2015 and went on to make six second division appearances plus another 80 for the Under-23s.

Daniel Buballa moved to the Millerntor from VfR Aalen in 2014. The left-back, who since last season was mainly used in central defence, made his 198th competitive appearance at Regensburg and contributed two goals and 15 assists for the club in total.

Ryo Miyaichi joined the club from Arsenal in 2015. The Japan international was beset by injury woes during his six years in Hamburg, including two cruciate ligament tears. Regrettably, the fleet-footed winger was restricted to just 80 competitive appearances (eight goals, nine assists) in a St. Pauli shirt as a result.

In centre-back Tore Reginiussen (10 appearances) plus loanees Dejan Stojanović (18 appearances), Rodrigo Zalazar (34 appearances) and Omar Marmoush (21 appearances), another four players are bidding farewell to the Millerntor. While Reginiussen is embarking on a new chapter off the pitch, it remains to be seen where the future lies for Stojanović, Zalazar and Marmoush. As the recent past has shown, our paths may well cross again.

Svend, Buba, Ryo, Tore, Dejan, Rodrigo and Omar – you’ll never walk alone!

All departing players will be given a fitting send-off in due course.
