Boys in Brown sign centre-back Marcel Beifus

FC St. Pauli have strengthened their squad with the addition of central defender Marcel Beifus from Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose any details of the transfer arrangements.

Beifus learned his trade at VfL Wolfsburg, where he rose through the youth ranks. The 18-year-old made seven fourth-tier appearances for the club's second team, scoring one goal and providing one assist. He also contributed five goals and one assist in 20 competitive outings for the Under-19s plus 10 goals and two assists in 24 appearances for the Under-17s. Beifus also made two appearances for the Germany Under-19s and for the Under-17s.

Reaction to the deal:

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: "We're delighted to have signed a talented player in Marcel Beifus. He enjoyed a very good footballing education at Wolfsburg and we're confident he can develop at FC St. Pauli behind our experienced defenders."

Head coach Timo Schultz: "Marcel has everything it takes to make the grade in the professional game and we're convinced he'll take that step with us. I'm looking forward to working with him."

Marcel Beifus: "I'm looking forward to the new assignment. FC St. Pauli are an ambitious second-division club and a good address for young players, so it was an easy decision for me to make. I now want to settle in here as quickly as possible and get to know my teammates and obviously the fans and atmosphere at the Millerntor – preferably out on the pitch."
